Based on current information available the SSCA season will now commence on Saturday 30th October 2021.

As we have said in all Covid-19 related correspondence this date is entirely dependent on PHO’s issued by the NSW Government, advice from CNSW / Sutherland Shire Council & NSW Office of Sport.

Please share these documents with your players and ensure that your captains FULLY understand what is required of them for us to get back to cricket as soon as possible but of more importance that we continue to play what is left of the season.

Salient points from CNSW / NSW Office of Sport / Sutherland Shire Council & the Public Health Orders issued by the NSW Government:

  1. From this Monday 11 October:
    • Prima facie training can commence, noting
      • Participants limited to 30 (confirmed by Council with Office of Sport)
      • Can only be nets and fielding – NO centre wicket, no trial games, no intra-club games etc. that could be construed as a “game”
      • NB – while training has been mentioned in the announcements attached of a broadened road map, Council still want to confirm that training per above is intended (i.e. the formal public health order has yet to be released and they need to see the exact wording)

  1. From 80% double vaccination (now expected to be in effect from 25 October)
    • Community sport can commence for double vaccinated participants – players, officials, volunteers – anyone “on site”)
    • The cap on participants a little uncertain (whether the expressed 50 or some other limit relevant to outdoor events or recreation) – Council is escalating to the Office of Sport to confirm if this applies, if it includes players, officials, volunteers etc.
  2. In relation to the above stages:
    • Onus is on each sport / facility user to ensure compliance with the relevant public health orders.
    • Recommend read the relevant public health orders in detail – and interpret them strictly / narrowly (i.e. don’t look for loopholes, don’t assume relaxed application etc.)
    • Clubs need a COVID Safe Management plan
    • Clubs should also have QR codes for participants to register at training and games
    • There will be challenges in policing the public health orders (don’t underestimate this part of your responsibilities), particularly while there is differentiation between double vaccinated persons and ‘others’ – recommended that Clubs have a robust procedure around checking participants (and that includes coaches, officials – anyone “on site”) are double vaccinated – and in particular have protocols / escalation triggers and contacts should someone seek to participate or join in contravention of the health orders
    • Players U16 years of age may need to have a double vaccinated parent / guardian from their household present while participating
    • Please continue to visit the SSCA website for updates and share this information with your captains AND player.
